So I was totally convinced homemade detergent was the way to go. It was cost efficient, convenient and simple to make. All great things you would want to have if you were making your own detergent. The cost was never an issue it only consisted of me buying the ingredients which would last for several months.

Ingredients

1/2 cup of baking soda

1/2 laundry booster

1 cup warm water

1/2 cup castile soap, I used Dr. Bronners Lavender scent

Mixing it together

I would just combine these ingredients and it was done. It was easy and simple. I was completely proud of myself for saving on my budget. However as I continued to wash my clothes I noticed a few things.

So after a whole year of washing my laundry with homemade detergent, I noticed my clothes wasn’t  getting any brighter. It sort of looked dingy. Stains had sit into the material permanently. Also even though I kept washing it over and over it just stayed the same. I actually didn’t realize the difference until I bought a stain remover. After using the remover, I noticed what my clothes should actually look like. I don’t know if it was just rinsing it but not removing anything. I also learned apparently because the homemade detergent isn’t thick its actually not so good for your some washers. It’s hard to explain and I know chemical detergents aren’t the best but for now it’s doing the job. I am in the works of finding something in between.
